Description: Watercolour, signed by the artist lower left. This is a design for a mural for Trelai Primary School, Ely, Cardiff. Eric Malthouse was a founding member of the 56 Group – its aim to promote modern Welsh art – Between 1952 and 1958, Malthouse produced a series of paintings depicting the world of pigeon fanciers and pigeons. The influence of Ceri Richards’ Festival of Britain paintings of Trafalgar Square is explored in the abstracted shapes, rhythms and dynamics of birds in flight.  A rare find and sought after.
