Ronald Searle

Typed Letter Signed (‘Ronald’) to Lady Beerbohm (‘Dearest Elizabeth’ [sic]). The English artist and satirical cartoonist writes to the second wife and literary executor of writer, caricaturist and parodist Sir Max Beerbohm, commencing his letter conveying his wife, Kaye’s, apologies for not having been able to see Lady Beerbohm when she called, and hoping that her thank you note for the garden roses will reach her safely. Searle continues ‘I must say again how happy and honoured I am that you should have suggested that I should edit the selection of Max’s drawings. As I told you, I look on it as a challenge as well as a wonderful job to do. There are so many of his friends and contemporaries living who are so much more qualified than I am but I can promise you that I will spare no effort to give it everything I can to make it a really fine book and worthy of the work’. A letter of interesting content and good association.
