Carl Giles
A poignant Autograph Letter Signed (‘Carl Giles’) to Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Missen. The British cartoonist, remembered for the Giles family (and in particular Grandma), states that it was kind of his correspondents to have written (‘especially at a time when you have such sorrow of your own’) and that he had found their kind thoughts a great comfort, further remarking ‘Mothers are irreplacable (sic) people, and only our happy memories of them make their passing bearable’.
Leslie R. Missen (1897-1984) Chief Education Officer for East Suffolk who complied several books including Quotable Anecdotes (1966) and Toptable Talk (1968).
