A woman, who may be a mourner or relative stands in the foreground, with the red rails of the fairground ride behind her and an angel floats above her. Or is this one of the children? Weight is working through the emotions in this scene and there is a gentle unease that permeates the canvas through to us, the spectators. This is not a ghoulish act of voyeurism but a compassionate portrayal of a tragic event. A perfect piece of storytelling.
