Genevieve Claisse
(1935–2018)
Geneviève Claisse was a leading figure in post-war geometric abstraction, celebrated for her precise compositions of form, line, and colour. A protégé of Auguste Herbin, she became closely associated with the Galerie Denise René in Paris, the epicentre of Op Art and Constructivist movements in Europe. Her work, with its clarity and disciplined geometry, reflects a lifelong commitment to exploring visual harmony and spatial rhythm. Claisse’s paintings and prints continue to embody the elegance and rigour of mid-20th-century abstraction.
