Francisco Sobrino
(1932–2014)
Sobrino was a Spanish artist who in 1960, in Paris, together with Julio Le Parc, François Morellet, Yvaral, Joel Stein, and Horacio García Rossi, founded the Groupe de Recherche d’Art Visuel (GRAV) which was active until 1968. Their work was driven by the concept of the social function of art, which relies on the viewer to participate in the work. Sobrino, since 1961, has focused on three-dimensional constructions, using modular elements in transparent plexiglas, whose form, due to the overlapping of the shapes and parts, change appearance depending on the positioning of the observer and their point of view. Interactive art was never the same again.
