Edward Burra has always been hard to categorise as an artist. Sometimes his work seems surreal but always his work is populated by strange characters from seedy backgrounds. He was fascinated by the underworld and the people associated with it. A meance underlies many of his pictures.His is a voyeuristic look at other worlds.
