Dennis Creffield

(1931–2018)
One of Britain’s most distinctive draughtsmen, Creffield studied under David Bomberg at the Borough Polytechnic before joining the influential Borough Group. In 1985, the Arts Council commissioned him to depict every English cathedral — a two-year journey undertaken while living in a camper van. The resulting series, celebrated for its powerful charcoal drawings that fuse architectural grandeur with expressive, sculptural mark-making, secured his reputation. His work is represented in major public collections and remains highly sought after by collectors of Modern British art.
