Cecil King
(1921–1986)
Cecil King was an Irish artist from County Wicklow who began his career as a businessman, only becoming a full-time artist in 1964. Initially working in abstract expressionism, he soon discovered that hard-edged abstraction—with its clean lines, bold geometry, and lush colour fields—was his true calling. From the late 1960s onward, he immersed himself completely in the style, producing refined, meditative works that balanced precision with visual impact. King’s paintings are celebrated for their calm authority and have been exhibited widely, securing his place among Ireland’s most significant modernists.
