Vision of the Month – Photographs – Elton John
This month’s Vision of the Month in Photographs is this Terry O’Neill photograph of Elton John in the LA Dodgers Stadium.
O’Neill would talk about being a reportage photographer who liked to disappear into the background so he could just get on with taking pictures. He obviously found a great vantage point on stage for this striking shot which was taken in October 1975, O’Neill has captured the moment of acclamation and celebration as Elton John raises his baseball bat in acknowledgement of the fans. Wearing an incredible LA Dodgers sequinned baseball outfit designed by American fashion designer, Bob Mackie. They had a wonderful time working together over the years and Mackie loved designing for Elton as the singer-songwriter loved to dress up and had never had anything like this outfit before. Mackie would design many wonderful and extraordinary outfits for him but this is truly an iconic outfit matched by this iconic photograph. Has anyone got Bob Mackie’s number? I feel a need for a new outfit!
