Graham Sutherland

(1903–1980)
Graham Sutherland was an English painter and master printmaker whose work drew deeply on the forms, patterns, and drama of nature. Initially creating exquisitely detailed landscapes in the Romantic tradition, he developed a distinctive abstract style that reimagined the natural world in bold, expressive forms. Renowned for his portraits and surreal, almost primeval landscapes, Sutherland also produced one of his most celebrated works — the monumental tapestry for Coventry Cathedral, installed in 1962. His art remains a powerful synthesis of observation, imagination, and symbolic resonance.
