Johnny Friedlaender

(1912–1992)
Johnny Friedlaender was a German-born, French artist and master printmaker whose abstract imagery carries a magical, lyrical quality. His work invites viewers to find their own meaning, blending colour, texture, and gesture in ways that feel both spontaneous and deeply considered. After moving to Paris, he was interned in a Nazi concentration camp for two years during the Second World War. Returning to Paris, he became a French citizen and lived and worked there for the rest of his life, establishing himself as one of the 20th century’s foremost printmakers.
