Description: Oil on canvas, signed bottom left. John Bratby, as part of The Kitchen Sink Movement, represented Britain at the 1956 Venice Biennale by showing their paintings of working-class realism.
This vibrant and striking painting of a Venice canal by the Rialto Bridge, was painted in later years as Bratby revisited Italy. He was taken by Venice in particular, which held a fascination for him and proved to provide great subject matter for Bratby to paint in his distinctive, colourful, thick oils.
