Believing in visually arresting pop culture

Bert Hardy

Bert Hardy was a photographer who was taken on as a staff photographer by Picture Post in 1940 and he became a celebrated war photographer, covering the Normandy landings, the allies marching into Paris and the journey into Germany but often connecting with his subjects. Away from war he continually documented everyday people doing everyday thingsĀ and his pictures exude a warmth only possible for somebody with empathy for people.

A retrospective exhibition is slated for later this month and will spark even more interest in his work.
