Margaret Pullee
(1910-2003)
Margaret Pullée trained at the Royal College of Art in the 1930s and went on to a varied career that included designing posters for London Underground and exhibiting at the Royal Academy and with the New English Art Club. Married to the artist Michael Pullée, with whom she shared a lifelong artistic partnership, she was also the mother of painter Michael Pullée Jr., making the family a remarkable artistic dynasty. Celebrated for her distinctive, naïve style, her work often conjures scenes of everyday life with a dreamlike, almost surreal quality. Balancing clarity of form with a gentle sense of wonder, her paintings and works on paper remain admired for their originality and charm, securing her place in the story of 20th-century British art.
