Antoni Tapies

(1923-2012)

Antoni Tapies was a giant of the art world and his famous for his use of mixed media in his assemblages, incorporating the Surrealist and Dada principles of using found objects in his work. He even used furniture in some of his painted pieces. He was a prodigious creator of an array of prints often using writing and crosses within the work. Oddly, he became part of Spanish nobility when in 2010, King Juan Carlos gave the hereditary title of Marqués de Tàpies.
