Anthony Gross

(1905 – 1984)

Anthony Gross was an extraordinarily talented creator being in turn printmaker, painter, war artist and film director. He was as good at painting landscapes as he was at capturing people going about their everyday business and during the Second World War he was a war artist who captured what it was like to live through those times. A lasting document to a fearful time. It often gets overlooked at just how good an abstractionist he was even within his figurative works.
